A LOW-CARB BREAKFAST THAT’S AS GOOD AS OATMEAL!

If you’re a fan of a warm, steamy bowl of oatmeal in the morning, but are interested in following a lower-carb diet, then this Grain-Free Hemp Seed Porridge is calling your name! There’s something very comforting about cozying up with a warm breakfast in the morning. The beauty of this porridge is that it tastes very similar to oatmeal, but is low in carbs and high in protein and fat. If you’ve heard the term “noatmeal” before, that’s exactly what this is!

WHY IS NOATMEAL BETTER THAN OATMEAL?

This porridge is full of healthy fats and fiber, with 15 grams of vegan protein and just 5 grams of net carbs per serving! Remember, net carbs are calculated by subtracting the grams of fiber from the grams of carbohydrates. For the sake of comparison, compare those nutritional stats with a serving of old-fashioned rolled oats, which has 27 grams of carbohydrates and only 5 grams of protein per serving!

Side Note: There is absolutely nothing wrong with oatmeal, in fact, I thoroughly enjoy it as a heart-healthy whole grain. However, my only point is that a bowl of regular oatmeal isn’t low-carb and doesn’t contain as much protein as this low-carb oatmeal or “noatmeal”.

I recommend making this on the stove for the best results, but you can always make it in the microwave. This recipe takes about five minutes to make, so it’s a great breakfast to make when you’re short on time. One of the best parts of this porridge is the toppings! I love sprinkling on some fresh berries, pumpkin seeds, and cacao nibs for an extra little sweetness, texture, and crunch. You could even drizzle a little nut butter on top as well.

Ingredients
  

  • 1 ¼ cups Dairy-Free Milk almond, coconut or hemp will all work
  • ¼ cup Hemp Seeds
  • ¼ cup Chia Seeds
  • 1 Tbs Maple Syrup or Honey
  • ½ tsp Cinnamon

Toppings

  • Fresh Berries
  • Pumpkin Seeds
  • Cacao Nibs

Instructions
 

  • Add all ingredients (except for the toppings) to a small pot over low heat and cook until thickened, stirring constantly about 3 to 5 minutes.
  • Transfer to a bowl, and top with berries, pumpkin seeds and cacao nibs.
