A common question that new health coaches have is “is it possible to get coaching clients with a small social media following?” And the short answer is ABSOLUTELY. A large social media following does not automatically equate to more clients or more revenue.
I like to use this analogy with my clients. Would you rather be speaking to a room of 20 people who you know for a fact are your ideal client or a room of 200 people who have no idea who you are and may not be your ideal client? The former! You want an audience of people who want what you have to offer.
Here are 5 steps to get coaching clients with a small social media following:
1. Show up consistently and share who you are, what you do, and how you help people
Research shows that people need to see or hear something 7-12 times before making a purchasing decision. So don’t get discouraged if no one signs up for your program after talking about it once. Or even twice. The more you share, the more confident you become in your own messaging and the more clear it becomes to your following. Remember, lead with the VALUE. You will find it much easier to get coaching clients when you focus on value.
I even created a masterclass that teaches you how to sell on social media without feeling “salesy”. You can check that out here!
2. Use Pinterest to drive more traffic and grow your audience
Pinterest is a search engine, NOT social media. In fact, did you know that most social media posts LIVE and DIE within 24 hours? If you’re just using Pinterest to look up dream kitchen inspo, then you’re missing out on the #1 way I organically drive traffic to not just my website, but my email list and social media.
Pinterest is the most underutilized platform by health coaches (really all entrepreneurs) and the best part is that it only takes 4 hours each month to get thousands (or even millions) of eyeballs on your content.
If you’re tired of keeping up with the ever-changing Instagram algorithm, Pinterest is for you. Are you ready to get your work seen by more people with less effort? Pinterest is for you. If you want to show up less on camera and feel the pressure to post Instagram stories all day long, Pinterest is for you. Do you want more coaching clients? Pinterest is for you!
3. Collaborate with other health coaches who have a similar audience
This could be in the form of an Instagram live, workshop, challenge, cooking class, etc. Joining forces with others is a very powerful way of getting in front of more people in a short amount of time. When you’re pitching a collab with someone, make sure to lead with how this will benefit THEIR audience.
4. Take yourself on a podcast tour
Here’s what I mean by a “tour”. Try to be a guest on a podcast at least once a week. Find podcasts in your niche that you know your ideal client is listening to. The average podcast has an audience size of 5,000 people. So that means, if you’re on a podcast once a week, you will get in front of 20,000 new people over the course of a month!
Podcasts are also great at boosting credibility and putting you in a position of being an expert. When someone is looking to hire a health coach, they want to work with someone who is viewed as a leader in their space.
Don’t forget to take advantage of talking about your own program on the podcast as well. Podcast hosts will ask what you would like them to link out to (your website, social media, etc), so make sure to share your program information. Someone listening might be very interested in learning how they can work with you after listening to you speak, so don’t miss this opportunity!
5. Focus on your SEO game
If you’re not familiar with SEO, it stands for search engine optimization. In simple terms, this means how someone finds you online. When you spend hours creating content creating content, writing blog posts, and creating freebies, you want people to see your work, right? If you don’t make it easy for people to discover you, you’re going to find it very difficult to sign coaching clients.
I have an entire masterclass on how to boost your SEO, but here are a few quick tips:
- State your value proposition in a header – make it bold, short, and ideally 6 words or less
- Present a single and focused call to action at the end of the post
- Utilize keywords – these are what your audience is searching for
